SEAFAR is an insurance pool not a fleet insurance policy. See the insurance brochure below for more information about SEAFAR. We do carry reinsurance to minimize risk to the insurance pool. SEAFAR insurance pool provides P&I coverage with hull insurance (minimum 33% of the hull coverage).
All SEAFAR members must be members of SEAFA yearly. General membership dues are $200 plus $25 for each of the four fishery Divisions (salmon, crab, shrimp and longline) for which a member holds a permit. SEAFA is a non-profit Alaska corporation governed by a 12 member Board of Directors. SEAFA seeks to preserve and protect the Southeast Alaska commercial fishing industry while promoting legislation, resource conservation, and at sea safety practices for the general welfare and benefit of the membership.
If you are not already a SEAFA member you can still submit an insurance application and get your approval status, though before you will be able to start the insurance you will be required to join SEAFA, the membership application is available at the bottom of the page and is labeled as “2026 SEAFAR Insurance Application”. Please provide at least 2 weeks for the insurance committee to review the application. Email applications to kathy@seafa.org
Insurance applications are reviewed as they are received and insurance is prorated thru the end of the year from the date the policy is started except an insurance policy will not be bound during the month of December. Applications will be reviewed in December but the policy will not start until January 1st.
